These are so much better than I thought they’d be. The 4.7 liter V8 actually sounds like sex. Like holy fuck, Toyota got the engine note and intake noises SOOOOO right and everything else is pretty damn good except the seats.

I really wanted one of these with the v8 but the wife didn’t so we compromised and got what the wife wanted

The Explorer?

The Exploders have better interiors, but the 4Runners are more reliable IIRC.

I’ve always half wanted one of these. Not like I look them up regularly, but if I wanted a newer 4x4 instead of an old LandCruiser, this is probably what I’d get.

Yup. I mean so far the Explorer has been reliable but it’s got a leak coming from the front diff and needs rear brakes. Other than that it’s a solid little truck.

Just hope the starter never goes. It’s tucked up under the intake manifold in the V of the engine. Apparently it’s usually good for 200k (or about half the life of the typical 4.7) but Toyota charges 8 hours labor for replacement.

Also, new seat foam helps a lot. We have done many 10-year-old 4runners at work and the mid-2000s were just not a good time for Toyota and Honda interiors.

Seriously though, those seats were horrible. The bolsters were made for like anorexic supermodels or something.

Currently thinking the same thing about this series 1 Disco I’m driving today. Wonderful vehicle, ruined by terrible seats. The seat base is TINY. It feels like I’m sitting on a padded barstool, and that I could fall off the seat at any moment.

My most likely 2nd vehicle is going to be the GX470(Land Cruiser Prado in all other markets). A 4Runner with the Lexus touch, that I will then go full on off road Prado with.

I had a V6 before my Audi and a buddy had the V8, they had transmission problems. But easy to wrench on and really reliable.

Friend of mine has a Taco with the V6 and another buddy, a 4Runner with the V8. Really nice trucks, neither of them have ever had issues with em.

Find a good family car yet?

If money were no object if keep my 4Runner and drop a 1Uz in and keep it an off-roader and then get an N210 like that one and make it more of a street machine kinda like an STi forester.

There are days I wish I would have kept the Toy, but I needed out of the payment when economy took a shit. I think we’re going with the CX5. We just refi’d the house and paid off a ton of debt and freed up some monthly cash flow so hopefully soon we can pull the trigger.

Buuuuutttt the Audi is back in the shop now. wah wah

Secondary injector pump, window regulator and full tune up.

Yep. The 2005 has the newer V8 with VVT-i and it has gobs of power. Just don’t skip that timing belt service, it’s an interference engine.

They’re geared for highway cruising, which is good for driving and not so good for offroading.

The seats are murder.

Oh, btw the Allroad isn’t for me.

Family member needed help car shopping and I fulfilled my duty of suggesting an Allroad and that suggestion won, under the condition that I get to drive it whenever I want.

Dad’s got a 04 Tundra with that 4.7 and I agree - it sounds really good, (honestly better than the current Tundras.) He hasn’t had any issues other than the ball joint recall.

4th gen v8's are going to be sought after here in a few years. Amazing machines.

Totally agree. I’m not a giant Toyota fan as you know, but the 4Runner V8 is only top 10 list of engines. Sounds fucking amazing and has plenty of power.

They have two sets of seats in V8 models. The sport (in the Trail, Urban Runner, some Limiteds and V8Sport) and base (in Limited, and SR5 V8.)

The sport seats have a more rounded bottom cushion and a dip in the backrest for the headrest. Those are more heavily bolstered than most.

The base seats are nice and comfy.

Alternately a ‘10+ seat swap is definitely doable but can be really expensive.

its the A750 trans with a locking torsen center diff and the 2uz...its a winning combo. I’ve been tempted to sell my 80 for one because of how much nicer a daily/tow rig it would be.

My friend has a sport edition, I only have my CRV because I commute in it, otherwise I would have one, I have two other cars to maintain so another suv isn’t happening.
